A website goal measures a sequence of actions in visits, such as viewing a page and then submitting a signup. It does not install those events or turn a click into a confirmed business outcome. Verify the underlying events before relying on the funnel.

Add the sequence

  1. Open Websites, choose the intended site, and open Conversion goals.
  2. Check the reporting period and Test or Production environment. A goal tested with Test visits will not prove production coverage.
  3. As an owner or editor, enter a Goal name, choose Start with, then choose the next action under Then · step 2.
  4. Use Add step only for intermediate actions you want to measure. Choose the events actually observed for this site; each option shows its received count.
  5. Choose Add goal, then inspect the saved funnel and perform a complete test sequence in the appropriate environment.
For developer-installed events, Use custom event names accepts the exact name on each line. Typing a name here does not create or install that event. A repeated event name requires separate matching events; one occurrence cannot satisfy every repeated step.

Read the result

The funnel shows how many sessions started and completed the sequence, plus the sessions and rate at each step. Check the displayed denominator and sequence before comparing rates across goals. A goal ending at a booking-button click measures that click, not a confirmed appointment. Use a successful booking event if that is the outcome you need. Few completed sessions can mean a real drop-off or missing instrumentation. Check event names, consent, environment, dates, and received events before deciding that visitors abandoned the flow. A zero rate with no eligible starts is different from a measured failure to complete.

Change or recover

Owners and editors can Remove an unwanted goal; viewers can inspect shared results. Review the sequence before removal and recreate only when you intend a new definition. If Goals or funnel results could not be loaded appears, use Retry instead of treating the error as an empty funnel. Next: export website analytics or measure confirmed revenue.
